A real mans Game!
What else could I mean but--"Rugby"!
Full body contact--no" mamby pamby" allowed!
No room for "knicker elastic" -in other words tarty blokes worried about their hairstyles-finger nails--fashions(wearing of wraps over their swimming trunks etc).
NO crying! No taking a dive!
Unlike the American sport -No padding!.
Punching and kicking allowed !
They dont leave the pitch to change their knickers at half-time!
and is there anything to stop an "All Black" in full flight? The "Haka" scares the oponents before game begins!
All that sweating--grappling--squeezing --phew!!!!
No wonder we real warm, red-blooded women love to watch--------

Fully agree with your observations Ellie. As the old saying goes: Football - a game for gentlemen plaid by thugs, Rugby - a game for thugs played by gentlemen. It is still true and goes for the supporters as well as the players.
I watched the England v Turkey Euro-qulaifier last night: 90 minutes of prancing nancies with girly hair-cuts being paid enormous amounts of money and failing to get a single score. Contrast this with the real English lions who will take the field aginst Georgia in the RWC this afternoon.

Rampage - you can't really mean that football is watched by gentleman and Rugby is watched by thugs!! At least Rugby fans don't get deported if they try to travel to watch their national team in another Country
It is fascinating that if you take the average law abiding sports follower (football or rugby) to a game in the Millenium Stadium, after a rugby match supporters of both sides have a great time in Cardiff's bars, yet after a football game anyone not hell bent on being in the middle of a punch up gets out of town as fast as possible - not a very good advert for what is supposed to be our national sport
Roll on next Saturday when a real test of sporting endeavour will be seen (on ITV as well where at least everyone has a chance to watch it!)

Duplicate posting really but many of us support our national teams/representatives in all that they endeavour to do - Rugby, Football, Athletics, Rowing, Tennis, Golf and for that matter drumming up international trade at summits.A real mans Game!
And we do that when those representating us are women too !

I hold up my hand Sis(Mads) --that this was a bit of a "wind-up"really---but also to get away from the footie that folks seem to get obsessed with and as Rampage says --a lot of" prancing about" was it?---ending up with nothing!
Have to admit though--Im a wee bit biased towards the wonderful game of rugby--Hub played it (very well) in his youth--Jamie too,though only on school team.
Also,there seems to be so much more actual enjoyment in the game compared to football.I know Ill be in trouble here--particularly If my daughters boyfriend should read this--but coward that I am--I know full well that he wont as he doesnt have a computer! hes a fully paid -up ardent supporter of "Millwall" and a regular at the "Den" and wont hear a word against them!
I view sport as fun--another fav. of mine used to be wrestling--it had a regular saturday spot on our tvs in late 70s/80s.
The one main thing thats "gone wrong" with all sport today -is the vast amounts of money involved.Tennis--a firm fav.of mine & never fail to watch the big tournaments --but look at Wimbledon now--d'you know I didnt bother with it at all this year.Its dull-dull-dull---where are the personailties -again of the 70s/early80s-the characters like Connors--Mackenroe(not a fav of mine-and though stroppy--brilliant)Nastase--even Borg(My absolute fav.)the icecool Swede--but what a sportsman--even with blistered hands and looking like he was finished--fought back.
God--have i gone on--sorry-- but to me thats what sport should be about--gamesmenship--fun--competitive--etc.
I must put in a word for cricket too--My dear late Dads fav.--he played for Dulwich as young man--a pretty mean bowler! Wheres the "Ian Bothams" today--brilliant-- and true sportsman--never gave up--put his all into the game.
Who would you nominate as your "sporting hero"?
By the way--there are some pretty good womens rugby teams too--now they really get "stuck in"!
