Romantic Restaurant
Romantic Restaurant
Right Gang
I need your help, my husband and I, are coming to CVO in early December for the weekend to visit our new apartment for the lst time.
We are leaving the kids at home, and as its our first vist to CVO for a couple of years need advice on which restaurant to visit on the Saturday night - this is a real treat for us. Romantic but good food preferably portugese and obviously open, and do we need to book in advance.
Thanks for your help

Maxim (next to Happy's and the Carvoeiro Bar [a perfect place to have a drink before and also after dinner until the early hours]) is a perfect place to have "dinner for two". I have been there several times and know the owner very well (he's also Dutch). If you're considering going there send me a PM.
Romantic?
yes, perhaps Maxines, or a cosy table tucked away inside in Via Italia (nicer in winter!), Primavera wil be shut I guess. What about Bon Bon at Sesmarias? Nice central fire going, a few brandies and whey hey!

More Cheese?
Thanks Tricky--Im sure you'll love it if you go there----erm--waiters?
Well first of all --as the name implies ---very Italian atmosphere and usually soft music playing softly in background --called Venetian Rondo(Mandolins)----mmm
Sorry--youasked about waiters didnt you--well--theres a tall dark slim guy who hovers around to make sure you get all you want!----and theres a shorter dark-haired fella --who keeps coming up to see if you want more Parmesan--theyre in constant attendance---not Italians though(from past experience--they'd be more obvious!) but very nice Portuguese blokes--you wont be disappointed!
Oh Tricky! See what you've made me do ?
Ill have to write out lines tonight;
I Mus Behave
I must behave------one hundred times.
Have a good day,Ellie

Actually Ellie
That leads on to quite a good topic, for us girls that is!
What is generally thought about portugese men? - how do they rate against English and the generally more romantic Italian and French?
I've only come across one or two portugese men and I'm sure you've had much more experience than that Ellie (in the most proper manner obviously)

Continentals versus Brits
Tricky!
Whatever could you be suggesting!
But yes--a great idea---we girls comparing men of the continent to Brit guys(Scots/Engish/Welsh/N.irish)and Irishmen!
How did you only come across one or two Portuguese dear? Theres whole load of them just waiting for you inCVO!
In my time there--I did get to know a wide variety of Portuguese men--and in general they were nice friendly guys and can be quite flirty I found . But i did find then that they were very chauvinistic and I did get a bit uptight about it at the time.
However-in recent times Ive found a vast improvement --particularly in younger men--finding then obliging and quite charming and not just the waiters!i was helped a great deal --by the dark-eyed "Miguel"--hotel receptionist in Carvoeiro Sol.If you need directions --seek him out!
Had italian boyfriend once--mmm real latin lover and very attentive! But they start to flirt when only knee -high--its born into them! But can be Mummies boys!
I have french blood from Dads side(his ma) and have some experience of the men.Of course, they can be charm itself--that "accent"--especially when speaking English--mm--mm--they could recite a laundry list and still charm the ---socks? off you!
But I have to say --even with all this--that most Brit guys -and Irish fellas --come across as the most polite/courteous -dare I say-gentlemanly--of all I think.
But--on a romantic evening out---who would come out the most exciting---maybe thats what we're really after --what say you Tricky and other ladies out there?
Please come on and give us your opinion--we're waiting!

Actually Ellie, Its time I owned up. Having three children who are only just
getting a bit of independence, its been a while since I've been able to notice the oposite sex - however, I do remember a certain holiday in Sicilly pre children - The italians were very gorgeous and demanding, but a bit wimpy. I havn't had a french experience but I absolutely love the accent, Australians are seem a bit blond and unfortunately too young.
Enlighten me Friends.

Portuguese Ladies
Well Guest--Im assuming you are a male?
dont know where youve been--but there are plenty of lively Portuguese ladies around and I can claim aquaintance with quite a few. Not just friends I made when living there--but just recently in my hols inCVO.
seek and you will find!
As a matter of fact--my next story-which Im just completing-is exactly about them. Three "sparky" young women--well-educated--warm and friendly and attractive. Im sending it to Steen to this week--who then puts them on Ellies Corner--homepage.
But it isnt only the young--older more mature Portuguese ladies you will find are just as charming & friendly. When I went to Lagoas Saints day--I couldnt help but admire how modern and smartly dressed these ladies were, they greeted us with welcoming smiles--I felt quite down -at heel--in my blouse and shorts!
How do they compare to us Brits--very well Id say--and in appearance --ill stick my neck out and say --they may well be in the lead------
With that said Ill wish you boa noite,Ellie

extremely surprised no one mentioned O' Patio the oldest ( first ever ) restaurant in carvoeiro down at the beach beside the tourist center place. In december they will give you the lovely table beside the large stone open log fireplace. It has all the original dark ceiling beams and for your port or whatever after the meal you can retire up a few stairs to an alcove - very romantic. You can chose your lobster / crab from the glass water tank.
Been coming to carvoeiro for years and yet to find waiters as friendly. Go there you will not be disapointed.
Carvoeirophile.
