Myself and my girlfriend will be visiting Carvoeiro for the first time the last week in September. Will the weather still be warm and sunny or does it start to become more changeable closer to October?

Also, any advice on things to do and see?? We wont be hiring a car at all as we love to walk so anywhere close by would be nice. Whats the public transport like as well as would like to go into Albufeira at some point?

If you go onto FAQ's you will find answers to most of your questions.
As for the weather, well the weather is the weather and therefore unpredictable, but on past experiences September is usually nice and October can be too. but obviously no guarantees.

Last year we came out in early October and had a lot of rain

, having said that the rain only lasted a part of the day. When the sun came out, as it did on all days it was warm enough to sun bathe

. How ever the nights were some waht chilly. Hope that you have a good time when ever you go to Carvoeiro.

Hi Shibby,

Weather has already been covered. Ideas on things to do - where do we start - boat trips, fishing trips along the coast from Portimao - many of them can arrange to pick you up from cvo if you don't have a car. Walks along the coast in either direction from cvo - stunning scenery. Mountain biking around Lagos or into the countryside - they will come and fetch you if required - or hire bikes from the shop in cvo. Albufeira is around 60euros return trip by taxi. Scuba diving, sailing, surfing on west coast - all possible. How's that for starters ? Can give you contact information if you need it or the tourist information kiosk on the town square in the centre of cvo should be able to give you brochures on most activities. There are also various standard coach tours operating sightseeing trips for those who don't have a car. I'm sure you'll have a great time.

We went on a half-day coach trip whilst we were in Carvoeiro last month - picked us up at the complex where we were staying at lunchtime and dropped us back approx 19.30. Went to Lagos, Cape St.Vincent and Sagres - very enjoyable and well worth the 16 euro's per person.

Enjoy your holiday - we will be back there 9 weeks today!

Shibby we came out for a week in September a couple of years or so ago & it rained, & I mean torrential downpour, for 5 of the 7 days, we hadn't brought enough warm clothing & had to buy. Having said that we still had a great holiday spent too much time in bars & met loads of nice people. On the other hand we've also been here in September & not seen a cloud in the sky, so I would say in the words of all good boy scouts 'be prepared'.

Shibby, the long range forecast on www.metcheck.com looks very changeable. Looks like a wet weekend on the 30th of september so be prepared as the last respondent advises.

We have been out to Carvoeiro in December and the weather was a little mixed but when the sun came out you could wear a t/shirt & shorts - temperature must have been in the high 60's so i would expect October to be warmer than that.

If you like steak there is a great 'stone steak' restaurant on the right side of restaurant hill going into Carvoeiro. Also a very good Chinese near the Flic-Flac bar.

Thanks for all of your replys guys, most helpful. Will be flying out on the 23rd of September for a week and really looking forward to it. Its my first holiday abroad for 6 years and my Girlfriends first ever so both very excited. Looking forward to good food, good drink and great surroundings, I'm sure in CVO we wont be disappointed!!

Shibby, just got back from 2 weeks in cvo and it was scorching!
Public transport is good and taxis are v cheap so a car is not essential.

Have a great time and if you go to hemmingways bar (which i recommend) give our love to hazel and murray.

Surely it all depends upon what you intend to do. If you want to see the Algarve from west to east to north you do need a car. Here's a few good reasons to hire one: Places to visit - east to west.

We were in Carvoeiro last week August/first September and the weather was absolutely boiling hot.

The 'Chu Chu' train goes to Ferragudo on a Tuesday 11 o'clock from the square - back at approx 3 o'clock for 10 euro's per person.

It normally goes around Carvoeiro and then up restaurant hill, past Colina Sol apartments then through Rocha Brava and back down the road then left towards Algar Seco, past the chapel and back to the village for 3 euro's each.

Back in November - cannot wait.
