Post by bica »

Scottish freinds visiting CVO 2 weeks time - does anyone know if a Burns Night Supper is available in CVO - possibly Mungos?

:D I love haggis the wee timerous beastie, served with mashed tatties, bashed neeps, fried leeks & whisky gravy.
Haven't seen any running around out here so don't know if the local butchers supply them. Last year I smuggled 2 in my suitcase.

Don't know of anything in Carvoeiro but there is a Burn's supper at Jardim Das Dunas in Lagos. Cock a leekie soup, haggis and neeps followed by cranachan, there is also a piper. I went last year and the food was excellent. Starts at 7.30pm and is 25 euros per head.

I've just noticed the picture of the haggis is incorrect, haggis or haggi have 2 legs shorter than the others, this makes it easier for them to run along the hillsides. :D

And the wee timorous beastie was a mouse. How many mice go into your haggii Blue? :D Note the correct spelling of the plural. :D

The debate is still open as to the correct plural for haggis. The mouse is not the only wee timerous beastie in the world you know. How many haggis have you seen cavorting around the highlands? & what about Nessie the Loch Ness monster? A very timerous beastie, though not all that wee I admit. :D
Time to put the cork back in the Johnnie Walker methinks.

Exactly:

Mouse - Wee timorous beastie

Haggis - moderately sized timorous beastie

Nessie - WTF timorous beastie. :D

When we flew back after Xmas, there was a Glasgow flight leaving Faro about the same time. I went to that little hatch where you have to try and decide what you want, then go to another hatch to pay for it, then go back to get it (what is that about???) there was a lady asking for a wee coke for her laddie. I had to translate for her. :D

Tae A Fert

Oh what a sleekit horrible beastie,
Lurks in yer bellie efter a feastie,
Just as ye sit doon among yer kin
There starts to stir an enormous wind.

The neeps and tatties and mushy peas
Start working like a gentle breeze
But soon the pudding wi' the sauncie face
Will hae ye blawin' a' ower the place

Nae matter whit the hell ye dae
a'body's gonnae hae tae pay
Even if ye try tae stifle
it's like a bullet oot a rifle

Hawd yer bum ticht tae the chair
Tae try tae stop the leakin' air
Shift yersel fae cheek tae cheek
Pray tae god it disnae reek

But a' the efforts go asunder
Oot it comes like a clap o' thunder
Ricochets arrond the room
Michty me! a sonic boom

God almighty it fairly reeks
A' hope a' huvnae shit ma breeks
Tae the bog a' better scurry
Whit the hell, it's no ma worry

A'body roon aboot me choakin'
One or two are nearly boakin'
I'll feel better for a while
Cannae help but raise a smile

It wis him! I shout and glower
Alas too late, he's just keeled ower
Ye dirty bugger! They shout and stare
I'm no that welcome any mair

Where e're ye go let yer wind gang free
That sounds jist the joab fir me
Whit a fuss at Rabbie's party
Ower the sake o' one wee ferty.
