Not really. Urine is pretty sterile and therefore probably harmless. I am probably phobic when it comes to smoking but I still think people should be allowed to smoke wherever they like. With one proviso, they eat the butt afterwards.

Maurice Flitcroft posted a few messages back - no relation to Maurice Flitcroft the (in)-famous golfer I suppose

Not related, but we shared a similar ability on the golf course so I took the nom de plume. He was quite a character.

One solution is to do what a character in a radio play I heard ages ago did. He was played by Martin Jarvis and he was an inoffensive, sensitive person. One night he was dining at a restaurant when the couple sat next to him began smoking. He politely asked if they would refrain while he ate and they ignored him and carried on.

So; he takes his side plate, and with a lot of snorting and grunting and coughing and spluttering he drags from the back of his throat a big phlegm ball and spits it out onto the plate! It worked. 8)

Another solution is to fart - but I think that is more dificult to do!

Another response if asked " do you mind if I smoke " is to reply, " Do you mind if I vomit on you ".

That usually stop them.

Another victim of the no smoking policy - my local Chinese restaurateur was moaning last night about people coming in to eat, then popping out for a smoke and not coming back in to pay the bill.

Some of the more of facile statement add nothing to any debate!!

I am an occasaional smoker, who obeys the rules and considers te comfort of others. I wouldnt dream of smoking in a resturant whilst others were eating.

2 things really piss me off...........Born again christians, and pious, zealous messianic ex-smokers.

8) You'll find me moored by the old Roman bridge and hear the unmistakeable sound of Demetrius' flute
Happy sailing

Thought I'd add my twopenneth to this thread. Just got back from cvo last night & had a great time as usual. We had some excelllent meals but disappointingly, only one this time at A Gale' due to my entire meal being marinated with Lambert & Butler. The entire family at the next table (one of which was so close he was practically sat on my knee) chain smoked throughout, including when members of their own party were still eating. Decided not to go back there after that & went to their other restaurant in Poco Partido instead. Much nicer surroundings & excellent food to boot.

Smoke

Post by patwab »

of course some of us are forgetting that smoking is almost a national hobby in Portugal !! If there was a blanket ban in bars and restaurants you can almost rule out most of the population of Portugal ever going there !! The only country I have been to that was worse was Greece. There it appears that smoking is COMPULSORY in any bar of restauarant !!!
I'm so pleased to go down to the Riasing Sun for a quick pint and not have to negotiate my way through fog to get to the bar !!
If I drink too much beer at least it doesn't usually affect anyone else !! :-)
