I wouldn't beat the Portuguese up about their driving - think its worse here in UK. And unfortunately its on the increase with the standard of Driving Instructors - last week a Learner Driver came out of a minor road, turning left, in front of me, I emergency stopped and watched in disbelief as the Instructor didnt even stop his pupil, they proceeded in front of me, again the pavement was used. They stopped at give way sign, turned right and again the pavement was used - are pavements the roads and no one has told us? And still they carried on! Outside shops.
Months ago, I came off a major dual carriage way to country lane (with nursery school and obvious dangers) nearby, blind bend and a driving instructor was using a blind bend to show his pupil a 3 point turn - CRAZY!
If thats the standard for being a driving instructor these days then no wonder there are accidents.
And to all those brainless morons who use mobile phones whilst driving and nearly running me off the road with my kids sat in the car with me - pity your kids for having parents like you!

I’ve always found driving in Algarve a doddle compared to Lisbon. It’s pretty scary here, but what can you expect when traffic lights are hidden behind trees, road signs are missing (stolen or flatten by a car that has “left” the road) and road markings including zebras done with some kind of whitewash that’s visible for a few months then repainted some years later.
