furnishing our place in Carvoeiro
furnishing our place in Carvoeiro
Hello
We're buying a place in Carvoeiro and would appreciate any advice anyone can give regarding furnishing it - are there furniture shops in the area? Can you generally order sofas etc. and get them delivered pretty much straight away or is there usually a delay of a few weeks (like the UK!). Another option is to ship furniture from the UK - is this a better idea, has anyone done this? We may have the option of a furniture package - are these generally good value?
Appreciate your advice
Jason

We bought quite a lot of furniture last year when we were in a similar position. For a reasonably good selection of contemporary furniture (chairs/sofas/beds etc.) we found Moviflor in Olhao - just east of Faro - the best. There are some quite large furniture shops in Loule, but tastes there seem to be rooted in the 1930s - dark and heavy. Moviflor delivered free to Carvoeiro within a few days. There is also quite a good but small shop run by British expats on the road from Lagoa to Porches - I think it is called Style Furnishings. We bought a nice kitchen table & chairs and coffee/occasional tables from them - also free delivery. For kitchen equipment we bought from the big electrical stores in the Portimao shopping mall.

We sent our furniture out from England last year with a company advertising in Algarve Resident. They were very good and reasonable and do part loads at a price per cubic metre. We bought IKEA which had several advantages, it was flat packed so saved space; we checked it for completeness before sending out; and we did not have to spend holiday time shopping. We did have to put it together out there but in the sunshine this was not a problem! We used the local shops for the smaller items and electricals.

We have furnished a couple of places in Carvoeiro and have used "Equilibrio" in Almancil. They are very professional. Need any more inforo email on "harlowj@hotmail.com" We have also shipped furniture from England at a cost of approx. £1000 we used Mick Ford based in Burgau. They used to ship regularly from England.
