Just travelled with Monarch both ways to the UK, they were the cheapest, the service was excellent & we left on the dot & arrived slightly ahead of schedule. Nice to be able to reserve seats & extra legroom, the cost of their meals & drinks are reasonable as well.
When we flew Ryanair once with a group of 6 friends my husband nearly fell out of the plane at the cost of a round of drinks for everyone. Mind you tickets were from Stanstead to Italy & only cost about £30 inc. tax so they gotta make their money somewhere.

We have used Monarch many times. In fact we are flying with them in December. I have been very happy with them and will use them in the future. Also used EJ, but it is a bit of a scramble. On Monarch I have already reserved our seats and I will be using their online check-in too - it saves a good deal of time and queuing up.

we travelled with Monarch in September out of Birmingham. Booked the flights over a year in advance and then found later that I could have got them cheaper with Easy Jet out of East Midlands. The only plus with Monarch is that you can reserve your seats in advance. They are very slow when it comes to boarding and the stairs when landing back in Birmingham were very rickety

We always use Monarch out of Manchester, and the only time we have ever been late taking off, it was due to a passenger who failed to get to the gate at the right time. We find their pricing structure is very strange, but when you can be flexible with dates, you can get the lower prices. We also like to pre-book the seats and check-in online, which saves a lot of queuing.
Incidentally, Charliegill, I don't think you can blame the airline for the state of the steps at Birmingham airport - they are the responsibility of the ground handling agents.

Since this EasyJet topic seems to have wandered into discussing Monarch.
Monarch have amazing bargains on LGW to FAO for Xmas - provided you choose your dates carefully. e.g. Out on Dec 13/14 and return on Boxing day (Dec 26) for £43.25 pp return. Return a day or two later and the price goes up quite a bit. Come back on Jan 2nd and it'll cost £206 pp return.
Now thats seasonal pricing for you
