Public internet access

Post by coxcarvoeiro »

Not resident...but hoping to be so when we find something to buy.

In the meantime dependant on finding public internet.

There was something in the beach goodies shop off the square.

Is it still there? Is there anything else?

ps What's the euro rate like? Are we about to get a horrid surprise?

Re the Euro rate.

Having just returned from Spain I paid for everything on my Nationwide Flex account card.

Just had the statement.

No transaction charges/fees and a rate of approx 1.265.

Worth looking at

Sharen has been plugging this for ages. Great to hear someone else is using it too.

More about the Nationwide B.S. cards abroad.

Paying for goods and services with their credit card = no fee and a better rate from Visa than the general rate. However, use it to draw cash from a hole in wall and you'll incur a 2.5% charge each time, deducted from the amount you withdrew when you get your next statement.

However, if you use a Nationwide B.S. debit card you can draw cash from ATM's without any charge at all and get more Euros for your pounds than the official exchange rate.

That is the same in the UK though - you should never use your credit card to withdraw money as you will be charged for it no matter who you bank with and what country you are in. Just use the debit card.

Where can you use the Nationwide BS debit card in CVO? Do you need to find a machine with the Link sign?

And what about getting back to the subject of this thread - is there anywhere in CVO that has a free hotspot? :?:

I had free internet access last year, but could not get it this year.

Re nationwide - it can be used at all the multibanks - Millenium, Barclays and the one opposite Casa Algarvia (can't remember the name).
